  1. This message announces the availability of version 0.9 of Linux/68k.

  3. It can be ftped from directory /pub/linux/680x0 at tsx-11.mit.edu.
  4.  
  5. A precompiled kernel executable can be found in vmlinux-0.09.gz in
  6. the "kernel" subdirectory.
  7.  
  8. There is also a new "bootstrap" program for the Amiga, in file
  9. bootstrap-1.8.gz in the "kernel" subdirectory.

  11. The source for the kernel can be found in linux-0.09.tar.gz in the
  12. "src" subdirectory.

  14. At this point in the development of Linux/68K, I consider it to be of
  15. BETA quality on the Amiga platform.
  16.  
  17. The changes in this release against 0.08 patch level 3:
  18.  
  19.  - The kernel has been upgraded to be compatible with 1.0.9 of
  20.    Linux/PC.
  21.  
  22.  - Preliminary integration of the Atari Linux version 0.3 sources has
  23.    been made.  Some work still needs to be done before a functioning
  24.    Atari kernel can be built from these sources (hint hint), since not
  25.    all of the source form Atari Linux version 0.3 were easily
  26.    integrated.

  28.  - Bounce buffers implemented for the Amiga SCSI drivers.
  29.  
  30.  - A whole bunch of fixes for various Linux/68K specific (and Amiga
  31.    specific) bugs incorporated.  Thanks to all who contributed these
  32.    fixes.

  34.  - Various minor enhancements.

  36. The precompiled kernel executable includes an Atari configuration, so
  37. if you are using an Amiga, you will probably want to reconfigure and
  38. recompile the kernel to exclude the Atari sources.

  40. Further hints and installation instructions should be gleaned from the
  41. older ANNOUNCE-* files found in the same directory as this one.

  43. One small note though: If you plan to use the minix and ext2
  44. filesystems, and you have the older mkfs and fsck programs (from
  45. 0.08pl2 or earlier), you must upgrade to the versions found either in
  46. the new-filesys.gz filesystem image, or the "tools" subdirectory on
  47. tsx-11.mit.edu.

  49. Note also that binary distribution of various source packages are
  50. available from the "bin" subdirectory of the 680x0 archive on
  51. tsx-11.mit.edu.
